Disaster Redevelopment: Coffey Park, A Case Study

On August 10th, 2018, Savannah released her latest piece of notable work, Disaster Redevelopment: Coffey Park, A Case Study.  The independent research study, supervised by Dr. Patrice Derrington, Director of the Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED) Program at Columbia University, was focused on the redevelopment of the Coffey Park neighborhood after the Tubbs Fire, one of the most devastating wildfires in terms of structural damage in California History, burned down the whole neighborhood on the night of October 8th, 2017. In the case study, she utilized arcGIS to create maps that help tell the story of this neighborhood that went from thriving to ashes in a matter of hours. The maps show the location of the neighborhood in context of the greater state of California, the total fire destruction area experienced in the city of Santa Rosa, that experienced by the Coffey Park neighborhood, and finally what stage each individual lot owner is in the rebuild process.

Also in the study, she describes the redevelopment efforts of Coffey and how the local developers, members of the community, and city of Santa Rosa came together to rebuild the lost homes. The maps are shown here on this page. To read the whole study click the link below:
